The department has seven regions and each has a locally based autism coach.
Autism coaches provide expert advice and support to staff in the state school sector. They play a key role in helping state schools to build their capacity to implement inclusive, evidence-based teaching and learning strategies to improve the educational outcomes of students with autism.
The Reading Centre has four reading coaches and a part-time speech-language pathologist who are based at the centre. The coaches - all experienced educators with special interest and skills in literacy - provide the centre's advisory service, and develop and deliver the professional learning workshops on teaching students to read.
