Assessment and intervention

The Reading Centre is partnering with Supporting people experiencing learning differences (Speld) Queensland to deliver an assessment and intervention service for Queensland state schools.

The service is being rolled out in four regions: Far North Queensland, North Queensland, Central Queensland and Darling Downs South West in acknowledgement of their geographic isolation from these types of specialist services available in larger centres. Eligible students are those who are currently enrolled in state schools in Years 3–9.

The assessment and intervention service operates as a collaborative partnership between the Reading Centre, key regional personnel and Speld QLD. The purpose is to identify students with a specific learning disorder in reading, such as dyslexia, and build school and regional capability to develop individualised intervention plans to improve students' reading skills.

Student assessments conducted by Speld QLD provide additional information on a student's reading profile to inform targeted intervention.
