Autism Hub

The Autism Hub is an initiative of the Department of Education and Training (DET). It offers a range of services to support schools and families to improve the educational outcomes of students with autism:

  • advisory services for school staff, parents and students
  • building system-wide capacity and capability of schools through feedback on policy design and implementation
  • modelling, coaching and mentoring for school staff in state schools through locally based Autism Coaches in DET regions
  • expert guidance to assist regions to deliver a cohesive professional learning agenda
  • organising and promoting collaborative seminars and workshops for parents and schools with external agencies
  • distilling and disseminating research in user-friendly ways to school communities and parents
  • collecting and sharing up-to-date information on programs, services and supports
  • developing and testing pilot projects for wider use across Queensland schools.

Reading Centre

The Reading Centre is an initiative of the Department of Education and Training and champions reading as an essential life skill.

We offer a range of services to teachers and parents to promote and support reading at school and at home, including:

  • providing an advisory service for schools, early childhood providers, and parents and caregivers
  • delivering professional learning workshops for schools on the teaching of reading within the Australian Curriculum
  • developing resources for schools to build the confidence of their parents and caregivers in supporting reading at home
  • developing an assessment and intervention service to support students with dyslexia
  • distilling and disseminating research in user-friendly ways to school communities, and parents and caregivers
  • collaborating with external agencies to create and share resources to support early literacy development.
