Disability and Inclusion branch recently had the pleasure of hosting Dr Bob Jackson at the Autism Hub and Reading Centre. Dr Jackson has worked in the field of human services and education for over 30 years and is Managing Director of Include. Dr Jackson is passionate about real community and school inclusion through service design, staff training and support to both families and individuals with disabilities.
Dr Jackson has just completed a range of conference presentations across the east coast of Australia for the Down Syndrome Association, Vision Australia and the Community Resource Unit. Whilst in Brisbane, Dr Jackson made time to meet not only with the executive leadership team but connect to regional teams across Queensland through video conference. Dr Jackson shared the history of disability practice in Australia, the impact of community and personal values upon each school's inclusive journey, his support and encouragement of the work across Queensland for students with disabilities, as well as practical suggestions for teachers and those supporting teachers, working in increasingly diverse classrooms. Conversations were targeted, enthusiastic and thought provoking and we thank Dr Jackson for this time to reflect.
